Summer 2011
Whew! After a crazy week, we’re up and breathing again. Thanks to everyone who had a hand in making the shows happen this past week, from the outstanding bands, to our crews, to the venues, to our partners (Hudson River Park, The Village Voice, The Seaport, Fulton Stall Market & Beekman Beer Garden), and to the thousands of fans who came out. If you missed the shows, then shame on you, but there’re lots of reviews and photos online (Brooklyn Vegan, The Village Voice, The New York Times, among others) to make you jealous that you didn’t come out.
Up Next - Swirlies
While the quantity of shows slows a bit this week, the quality doesn’t. Up next is Swirlies, the Boston-based group that is celebrating its 21st year as a band. Often compared to My Bloody Valentine, Swirlies is renowned for pitting dreamy, guitar-based pop against its noisy, experimental tendencies.
While many know the band’s music, somewhat surprisingly, few followers of the New York indie scene have heard Swirlies perform live. The group’s last tour was in 2009!
This Thursday, Swirlies kick off a four-stop east coast tour in Baltimore, then play gigs in Washington and Philadelphia before ending up here in New York City to headline the Beach Party on Sunday, July 24 at 3 p.m.
The Ohio-based low-fi punk band, Psychedelic Horseshit opens the show with their own brand of noise-pop that they christened “shit-gaze.”
Don’t miss this opportunity to see what promises to be a terrific live show…and remember, it’s FREE.
