Mission of Burma with guests, The Labor Pool

We hope you caught DJ Pledge’s East Village Radio interview with Mission of Burma’s Clint Conley on Monday.  If not, you can listen to the podcast here.

More importantly though, the legendary Boston punk/art rock band headlines the final Beach Party concert of the season at Beekman Beer Garden in lower Manhattan this Sunday, August 7.

While doors for the venue open at 11:30 a.m., the show is slated to begin at 3 p.m. with a dj set, followed by MoB’s fellow Mass-based band The Labor Pool.  Mission of Burma is scheduled to take the stage at 5 p.m., but if you wait til then to come, you just might not get in.

After all, Mission of Burma is arguably one of the most important American rock bands of the past 30 years.  The band’s bracing mix of punk, pop, art rock, and avant-garde experimentation has provided inspiration to bands such as Superchunk, Jawbox, The Grifters, R.E.M., Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Sonic Youth, Throwing Muses, Yo La Tengo, Fugazi and Pixies, among others.

The quartet's vocal/guitar/bass/drums/tape manipulation line-up is renowned for its relentlessly intense and dynamic post-punk rock sound. Currently, the band is working on its fifth studio album, and Conley promised to offer up some new material this Sunday.

SUNDAY AT THE BEACH

SUNDAY AT THE BEEKMAN BEER GARDEN - Seaport, North Side Pier 17

BEACH PARTY

with The Raveonettes

and special guests Eternal Summers

Undoubtedly, the best outdoor concert this Sunday (July 31) takes place at Beekman Beer Garden as the Beach Party music series presents a free concert by The Raveonettes.

For 10-plus years, the musical DNA of The Raveonette's Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo has evolved into an influential force, impacting some of band's most-loyal and notable acolytes, including Best Coast, Vivian Girls, Dum Dum Girls, and Glasvegas. NME.com declared the Danish duo as responsible for sparking "America's pop renaissance."

The afternoon begins with a DJ Set from OJ Xray Eyeball and Lady Bree at 3 p.m. then it's Virgina-based Eternal Summers at 4pm.
