Founded in 2002, the Seaport Music Festival is recognized for presenting a plethora of indie music’s most relevant breaking and established bands —indie veterans to critically acclaimed newcomers —from around the globe.

In its 15-year history, the festival has become a gateway for new bands to break into other larger New York festivals in subsequent summers. The once “new” artists who made Seaport Music Festival their first free large outdoor concert in New York City reads like a who’s who of contemporary independent music. This includes The xx, Deerhunter, Joanna Newsom, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Sufjan Stevens, Hot Chip and Dr. Dog among others. Veteran acts that are alumni include Animal Collective, Suicide, New York Dolls, Angelique Kidjo, Dirty Projectors, The National, Wire, Super Furry Animals, Superchunk as well as John Fogerty, just to name a few.
